(Wat men tweemaal herhaald heeft, blijft in de herinnering...)

In opdracht van Guidobaldo II della Rovere (1514-1574), de hertog van Urbino, schilderde Titiaan in 1538 de befaamde Venus van Urbino.
Voor de pose werd de renaissanceschilder geďnspireerd door de Slapende Venus (1510) van zijn vriend en leermeester Giorgione.
Italiaans: Venere di Urbino, de titel refereert aan de godin der liefde, maar in feite beeldt hij een gewone aardse vrouw af, erotiserend naakt, in een huiselijke omgeving.
Volgens de website van het Uffizi museum : in fact, had to remind the woman of the marital obligations she would fulfill to her husband.
Het werk bevindt zich in de collectie van dit kunstkabinet langs de Arno te Firenze (Florence).
Beeldend kunstenaar Paul Hermans heeft in 1989 na een bezoek aan het origineel zijn eigen Venus in conté gemaakt om deze vervolgens ook in hout uit te snijden.
